Football Recap: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to secure the hard-fought win.
Dominant Display Seals Contest
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 offensive yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous performance, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a potential winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach commented after the contest.
