The total count of victims from the transport jet that ignited and crashed has now reached 13, as confirmed by recent statements.
Mayor's Announcement
Traveling to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a result of the plane incident,” expressed the municipal leader in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the families, companions and colleagues of all who were lost in this week’s disaster. We will get through this together.”
Victims Identified
An announcement from the company identified the pilots operating the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies are extended to all staff member who has been affected and all in our Louisville region – assisting you and guaranteeing you obtain the support and resources you need is our priority,” the company’s message expressed.
Investigation Details
Government investigators disclosed that the freight aircraft’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine detached shortly after takeoff from the airfield, resulting in the aircraft to crash and burst into a blaze.
The safety agency stated it is probing the aircraft’s upkeep logs, that was in the state for fixes weeks before the accident.
Aircraft data revealed the aircraft was on the runway in that location from 3 September to mid-October.
“We are aware that this aircraft was present in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on later, not giving a exact time frame. “We will look at every piece of service that was done, including the Texas time, right up to the date of the trip.”
Recovery of Key Components
The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were found, and the engine was located on the runway.
The recorders – known as black boxes – were constructed to endure collision damage and intense fire from blazes, and they seemed to be intact when located among the crash debris. Officials plan on examining data from the black boxes.
Jet’s concluding data recordings showed an altitude of that level and a rate of 210 miles per hour ahead of the impact.
Repair History
Based on Federal Aviation Administration documents dated last month, a fissure on a structural piece within the fuel container required fixes.
The company ST Engineering, which indicated it provides aircraft servicing for UPS’s jet and manages a service location in San Antonio, chose not to provide remarks, but said it would assist completely when officials contacted it.
Services Restart
At the same time, UPS Worldport services continued last night with its overnight or nighttime process, representative Jim Mayer said. All three runways at the airport were also open again.
The distribution hub in the city is the organization’s largest. The center engages over 20,000 individuals in the region, processes 300 trips each day and sorts over four hundred thousand parcels an hour.
Local Reaction
A gathering was conducted on the evening of 6 November by the area worker’s group, which acts for workers at the Louisville airport, the organization’s largest shipping facility.
The union chapter, which represents staff, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the incident two days earlier.
“This incident was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the leader spoke to the assembly of attendees. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any of those who we have lost.”
